Adam didn't ‘have’ a soul - he ‘was’ a soul. I'm a soul. You're a soul. Any creature that's alive is a living soul including one's pet cat.
Greek philosophy has a lot to answer for with its mysterious, fluffy ‘soul’ thing that flies off after death.
